Myself

My name is James Ball (JwB), a second year Mathematics and Computer Studies student at the University of Derby, UK.

Whilst I enjoy a normal, non-geek life, I have a huge interest in computers and technology, and have had for almost as long as I can remember. My range of skills include GNU/Linux and MS Windows to C#, PHP and C, with a large thirst for constantly learning new things. Some of my most recent projects can be found on the portfolio page.

Of particular interest to myself are the inner, low level, raw workings of a computer, things which are often forgotten in an age of OOP and endless layers of abstraction. For this reason most of my focus has been on writing emulators and a basic operating system with little real world value, just simply for the learning curve and personal satisfaction.

Aside from the techy stuff, I enjoy travelling the world, going to the gym, listening to electronic dance music (specifically hardhouse, though pretty much anything 4-to-the-floor), and of course spending time with my lovely and understanding girlfriend.

In the near future I’m hoping to undertake a masters degree in Computer Science, hopefully somewhere in London.
